Prof. dr. Jozef Pacolet was until September 2017 associate professor of the Catholic University of Leuven and head of the ‘social and economic policy & social inclusion’ unit of HIVA - Research Institute for Work and Society and research manager for the research group ‘Economy and the welfare state’. From October 2017 onwards he is ‘Emeritus Professor with formal duties’.

He was teaching financial economics at the Vlekho and HUB in Brussels from 1981 until 2005.

He is as an economist since 1983 involved in the study of the relation between economics, demography and social protection at national and European level.

In the field of public finances, he directed several studies on tax evasion and avoidance and the size of and fight against social fraud in Belgium, and contributed also to European projects in this field.
